Dr. Axel Langer will give a lecture as part of the France-Persia Lineh Kulturabend on luxury and Euro-Persian interactions.

Around 1900, Orientalism flourished as much as Occidentalism. For example, French jeweler Louis Cartier (1875-1942), drew inspiration for his creations from classical Persian art of the 16th and 17th centuries, while fabric printers, carpet weavers, embroiderers and tailors in Iran adopted European, not least French, motifs, and integrated them into their products. In both cases, this led to entirely new aesthetic results.
