EXHIBITION

L'Esprit du Geste

5 October 2024 - 16 février 2025

Institut des Cultures d'Islam, Paris

From October 5, 2024 to February 16, 2025, the Institut des Cultures d’Islam (ICI) invites you to experience the group exhibition L’Esprit du Geste (The Spirit of Gesture).

As the inaugural exhibition of ICI’s new spaces on Rue Léon, The Spirit of Gesture brings together over fifteen international artists who explore and reinterpret gestures, motifs, and materials passed down through centuries and migrations. Through the hands of artisans and the intimacy of homes, their work places humanity, time, and nature at the core of the creative process.

This exhibition is a poetic fusion of ancestral traditions—from Persian, Indian, Ottoman, Arab, Berber, Latin, African, and Tatar influences—reflecting the syncretism of Islamic cultures. The Spirit of Gesture invites us to reconnect with the world, offering a sensory and polyphonic experience across painting, installation, sculpture, choreography, tapestry, and architecture.
