History is not a neutral terrain: it is written, erased, and reinvented. The editorial of this issue of Almanach, the magazine of the Swiss Society for the Middle East and Islamic Cultures (SSMEIC), highlights the work of Larissa Sansour, who uses science fiction to challenge official narratives and envision alternative futures. At a time when the rhetoric of the “clash of civilisations” is being employed to justify violence and oppression – particularly in Palestine – it is crucial to rethink how we define, tell, and transmit history.
