This presentation explores the concept of “primitivism” and how it has been received and interpreted by modern artists from regions outside the Western world. It also aims to establish connections between modern artistic movements and recent developments in the contemporary art landscape, such as those seen at the latest Venice Biennale. These developments involve a reexamination of colonial history and the exploration of issues related to gender, race, and more, using an aesthetic inspired by the European avant-garde's conception of the “primitive.”
